Tech influencer Marques Brownlee has recently addressed the backlash surrounding his speeding incident in a school zone. However, he has remained silent regarding his multiple encounters with law enforcement, including one particular incident where he was clocked at 59 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.
In November 2024, Brownlee faced significant criticism after a video surfaced, capturing him driving a Lamborghini at a staggering 96 MPH in a 35 MPH zone, an area marked with caution signs indicating children may be present. This prompted many to question his judgment and responsibility as a public figure.
Following the uproar, Brownlee took to X to issue a public apology, describing his actions of test-driving the luxury vehicle at such high speeds as “absolutely inexcusable and dangerous.”
On December 28, Marques released a retrospective video titled “WTF Happened in 2024?!” In this year-end review, he openly discussed the controversy that arose from his reckless driving, taking full ownership of his actions and expressing regret. At approximately the 10-minute mark, he delved into the implications of the incident.
Marques Brownlee Describes His Driving as “Stupid and Dangerous”
During the video, Brownlee remarked, “There was a clip in that video, which has since been removed, where I was driving a Lamborghini and exceeding 90 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone. It was simply stupid and dangerous.”This candid acknowledgment highlights a growing awareness of the potential consequences of such behavior, especially considering his influence over a young audience.
He further elaborated on the need for accountability, emphasizing that reckless driving could create a troubling standard for what is perceived as acceptable behavior. The 33-year-old content creator emphasized that both issuing an apology and removing the content was the most responsible decision.
“It’s not just about the act itself, which was foolish and hazardous, but also about the precedent it sets,”he stated. “We need to be mindful that people watch these videos and could mistakenly think that such behavior is acceptable.”

He continued, “I recognized my mistake, took it down, and I still believe that was the correct decision. Clearly, not engaging in such behavior in the first place would have been far wiser.”
This incident gained additional attention following the release of police bodycam footage that documented Brownlee’s multiple traffic violations. Although he addressed the speeding incident in his own commentary, he chose not to touch on the other infractions detailed in the footage.
Viewer reactions to Brownlee’s explanation were mixed. Some netizens resorted to humor, leaving comments such as, “2024 really picked up speed towards the end, huh?” and “This year did travel by pretty quickly.” While many comments took on a light-hearted tone, others praised Brownlee for his willingness to confront the issue head-on rather than ignoring it.
“Props to Marques for not pulling a MrBeast and deleting all the comments making fun of him,” one user noted, reflecting the sentiments of those who valued his transparency. Overall, his readiness to engage with the controversy garnered respect from various segments of his audience.
