Marvel Rivals Developer Announces Hero Release Rate Double That of Overwatch 2

Marvel Rivals’ Game Director has recently shared exciting news regarding the game’s expanding hero roster, setting a remarkable pace that significantly surpasses that of Overwatch.

Since its official launch at the end of 2024, Marvel Rivals has already seen a substantial increase in its character lineup. The introduction of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman during the Season 1 update was a standout moment, succeeded shortly after by The Thing and Human Torch, completing the Fantastic Four with a mid-season release.

A Steady Stream of New Heroes

In a recent interview with Metro, Guangyun Chen, the Game Director for Marvel Rivals, confirmed the development team’s ambition to introduce new characters regularly. Players can anticipate the addition of **two heroes per season**, with a new character debuting approximately every six weeks.

Chen elaborated, stating, “Every season we’ll roll out fresh seasonal stories, new maps, and new heroes. We’ll actually be breaking down each season into two halves. The length of one season is three months. For each half, we will introduce a new hero.” He emphasized the goal of continually enhancing player experience and sustaining excitement within the community.

Marvel Rivals heroes clashing — NetEase Games

If this schedule is maintained, Marvel Rivals could add up to **eight new heroes each year**. In contrast, Overwatch, which many view as Marvel Rivals’ main competitor, releases new heroes approximately every four months, resulting in about three new characters annually.

Should NetEase adhere to their proposed timeline, Marvel Rivals may rapidly outpace Overwatch in terms of playable characters by 2026. This will undoubtedly excite Marvel Rivals players, as each new hero introduces fresh dynamics and shifts within the game’s meta, similar to the excitement witnessed during Season 1.

However, this rapid expansion might raise eyebrows among Overwatch fans, especially as they have noticed a decline in player engagement since the emergence of this new hero shooter.
