Marvel Rivals Developers Address Pay-to-Win FPS Glitch & Commit to a Solution

Recent discussions in the Marvel Rivals Discord have shed light on a significant issue affecting gameplay: a pay-to-win scenario linked to frame rate per second (FPS) calculations. Community manager James has confirmed that higher FPS can indeed confer a competitive advantage, especially when it comes to certain heroes. This acknowledgment has led to hopes for an upcoming resolution.

Evidence gathered by vigilant players on platforms like Reddit has illustrated that the struggles some gamers face may stem not from skill deficits, but rather from subpar hardware. While not universally applicable, this issue appears to manifest in various scenarios.

Notably, certain heroes experience drastically diminished performance due to low FPS, which impairs overall gameplay. With a diverse roster in Marvel Rivals and intricate gameplay mechanics, the exact range of negative impacts caused by underwhelming performance remains to be fully explored. However, it is clear that this is an ongoing concern.

Acknowledgment of FPS Challenges in Marvel Rivals

James has officially recognized the glitch, confirming its legitimacy. As players have speculated, a low frame rate can complicate the effectiveness of certain heroes significantly. “Some heroes are currently experiencing movement problems related to frame rates. This is something we’re aware of, and our upcoming Season 1 version will address and fix these issues,” he stated.

In addition to movement problems, some ability damage is also impacted, leaving some abilities underwhelming in their effects. While this particular challenge won’t be resolved in the upcoming Season 1 patch, the developers are aware of the discrepancies.

According to James, “The underlying cause of these issues is tied to the client-side prediction mechanism, which is crucial for maintaining a smooth gameplay experience.”This mechanism likely relates to Delta Timing, as outlined in a previous article discussing the initial FPS issues.

James emphasized, “We’re actively working on finding a comprehensive solution that fixes these issues without compromising the smoothness of the game. This will take some time, but rest assured, we are committed to addressing it, and you can expect a fix in a future patch.”

While players can anticipate a partial resolution in Season 1, a more expansive set of fixes aimed at overall performance enhancement is still forthcoming. James has also noted that the very mechanism causing the initial stability problems may contribute to the FPS issues players are currently encountering, hinting at a deeper systemic challenge.

As Season 1 approaches, players can expect some alleviation of the FPS problem relatively soon. However, an exact timeline for comprehensive performance updates remains undisclosed.

The technical limitations of Marvel Rivals have been a deterrent for many newcomers, pushing some to stick with alternatives like Overwatch 2, which offers a smoother gameplay experience on lesser hardware.
