Recently, the development team behind Marvel Rivals addressed ongoing claims about “trolling”leakers by introducing fake heroes into the game. This discussion has become increasingly relevant as dataminers have extensively dug into the game since its launch, uncovering numerous character leaks that hint at future additions.
Amidst the excitement surrounding characters from the Fantastic Four introduced in Season 1, not all leaks have proven true. Speculation about fake heroes emerged last month, creating a stir within the gaming community as players began to question the integrity of the information shared by leakers.
In an exclusive interview with IGN, producer Weiwong Wu and executive producer Danny Koo clarified the situation.
Developers Focus on Game Progression, Not Trolling
Regarding the allegations of intentionally misleading leakers, the developers firmly stated “no.” They expressed that their priority remains focused on enhancing the game rather than engaging in deceptive practices. This commitment is reflected in their ambitious goal to introduce new heroes at a rate twice as fast as Overwatch 2.
Moreover, they raised concerns over the actions of dataminers who manipulate game files. Wu emphasized the complexities involved in character development, noting that each design undergoes an intricate process comprising concepts, trials, and prototypes.
Advice to Players: Be Skeptical of Leaks
Wu advised players to approach leaks with skepticism, stating, “We don’t recommend anybody to make adjustments to the files [of the game].” He explained that although there may be remnants of certain designs in the code, it doesn’t guarantee their future inclusion.
He highlighted that information derived from datamined content could indicate previous ideas or concepts that were considered but not necessarily finalized for release. Koo likened this situation to someone finding a notebook filled with rough sketches, devoid of any context for what those notes may signify.
