Marvel Rivals Alters Plans Following Player Backlash
Recently, Marvel Rivals made headlines by initially announcing a rank reset in the competitive mode midway through Season 1. However, following an overwhelming response from the player community, developers at NetEase have re-evaluated this decision and opted to remove the planned mid-season rank reset.
Developer Insights and Community Feedback
On February 11, in a timely update just before their final resolution, NetEase published Dev Talk Vol 10, discussing the context of the seasonal rank adjustment. They remarked that, “after careful observations and consideration, we have concluded that players’ ranks during the first half of Season 1 are the best indicator of their competitive skills within the season.”
This statement sparked intense discussions among players, but as concerns escalated, NetEase recognized the community’s unease and swiftly changed their approach.

Revised Plans for Competitive Rank System
In the subsequent Dev Talk Vol.11, published soon after the first volume, NetEase reversed their earlier decision regarding the rank reset. They acknowledged a common feedback point: “the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season has made participating in competitive mode less enjoyable.” In response to community input, they have committed to optimizing the rank system.
What’s Next for Players
The conclusion of the first half of the season is still scheduled for February 21. Players achieving the Gold rank will earn a special costume reward, while those at Grandmaster rank or higher can look forward to receiving Crests of Honor, with an additional exclusive Crest for the top 500 players.
Importantly, once the second half of the season commences, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their established ranks and scores from the first half, paving the way for a more stable competitive experience.
To earn the new ranked rewards, players must participate in 10 matches within Competitive mode and satisfy the designated conditions by the end of the season. Notable rewards include a fresh Gold rank costume and various Crests of Honor, each showcasing unique designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All categories.
