Marvel Rivals Surpasses Valorant and WoW in Twitch Viewership During Its Launch Month

In a remarkably short span of just over a month, Marvel Rivals has skyrocketed to become one of the most-viewed games on Twitch, outshining several established titles in the gaming community.

Launched in December, Marvel Rivals hit the ground running, achieving an impressive peak of 480,990 players merely three days after its release. Even during its lowest activity periods, the game has consistently attracted over 300,000 active users, demonstrating its resilience with a retention rate of 93%. For context, a retention rate of 50% is typically regarded as healthy for live service games.

By December 17, Marvel Rivals marked a significant achievement with 20 million unique players, showcasing its incredible popularity not only within the gaming community but also on streaming platforms like Twitch.

According to SullyGnome, which provides stats and analyses of Twitch viewership, Marvel Rivals has secured the position of the fifth-most watched game on Twitch over the past 30 days. While ‘Just Chatting’ maintained a dominant lead, Marvel Rivals demonstrated that it is a formidable contender against other popular titles.

Here’s a snapshot of the top five most-watched games on Twitch in the last month:

Rank Game Watch Time (Hours)
1 Just Chatting 267,854,702
2 GTA V 82,801,087
3 League of Legends 71,947,858
4 Fortnite 63,903,764
5 Marvel Rivals 62,940,425

Marvel Rivals came close to overtaking Fortnite for the fourth position, surpassing prominent competitors like World of Warcraft, Path of Exile 2, Counter-Strike, and Valorant. In contrast, Overwatch 2 experienced a significant drop in its viewership, plummeting from 125,000 to 64,000 viewers between November and December. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals achieved a peak viewership of 275,000 in December alone.

While it remains uncertain whether Marvel Rivals can sustain this explosive growth in the long run, current indicators suggest a continued upward trajectory. With the recent launch of Season 1, which introduces new heroes and a Battle Pass among other features, excitement around the game remains vibrant.
