Marvel vs. Capcom 2: The Long-Awaited Return

Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes is finally making its long-awaited appearance on modern systems, taking players for a ride in 2024.

Although it may not have been recognized for its balance, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 remains a highly respected fighting game of its time. Its impressive character selection and rapid gameplay are still fondly remembered.

Despite the game’s popularity, it has not received a modern remaster. While it was previously available on digital storefronts in the 2010s, it was eventually removed, most likely due to ongoing licensing disputes between Marvel and Capcom.

As announced during the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, Cable from X-Force is ready to dominate the competition once again. This is due to the upcoming release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on Nintendo Switch as part of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. The official trailer can be viewed on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel.

In addition to Marvel vs. Capcom 2, other games such as X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, and The Punisher will also be featured.

Surprisingly, The Punisher is included in the collection despite being a brawler rather than a fighting game. However, we are pleased to see its presence here. The remaining games in the collection are top-notch fighting games from their respective generations, and we are delighted to see their return.

The games consist of features such as custom match and spectator options, a museum, a music player, various display filters, one-button controls, and special moves.

Unfortunately, Marvel fans will have to exercise some patience, as the release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics has been pushed back to 2024. We can only hope that the wait won’t be too long, especially since it has been quite some time since the powerful duo of Magneto and Storm dominated the fighting scene, and not just in X-Men ’97.
