The Legend of Vox Machina has made its highly anticipated return, with the first three episodes of Season Three now available on Amazon Prime. Fans can expect many surprises in store for both newcomers and longtime enthusiasts of the series.
According to Matt Mercer, “The wild thing about an adaptation of an improvised game is you get to go back and really kind of exemplify what makes that part of the story arc so good and flesh it out even further.” This highlights the upcoming narratives in The Legend of Vox Machina.
Mercer also teased that “there’s plenty of surprises and turns for even those who are very familiar with how Vox Machina’s story went,” implying that some scenes will take even dedicated fans by surprise.
The initial trio of episodes has already introduced numerous unexpected storylines, fresh perspectives, and even attempts at sacrifice that were not part of the original Dungeons & Dragons campaign. (Spoilers for the first three episodes follow.)
For instance, long-term fans were taken aback by Kima and Allura’s betrayal, which had never been previously explored, and Percy’s attempted sacrifice to Jamon Sa’Ord, a plot twist not included in the original campaign. In the original story, the group had to prove themselves without resorting to murder.
These changes were largely due to modifications in Dr. Anna Ripley’s storyline, where she does not steal the Vestige from Jamon Sa’Ord’s palace.
However, many scenes stayed true to the original campaign, including a memorable interaction between Percy and Vex, as well as the awkward introduction between Percy and Vax shortly after.
With the next five episodes set to release weekly, and considering Mercer’s comments, it’s evident that viewers have plenty more surprises to look forward to.
