Matt Rife’s Warning to Hawk Tuah Girl About Viral Fame: ‘They Love to Tear You Down’

Comedian Matt Rife has offered words of advice to the Hawk Tuah girl as she continues to gain popularity as a viral sensation.

Ever since he started making a name for himself in the world of comedy, Rife has become a household name. Even before signing deals with Netflix, he gained popularity on TikTok and impressed audiences with his ability to entertain and engage a crowd.

On August 13, he debuted his most recent Netflix special ‘Lucid’ and, in order to promote it, he held a conversation with Jon Youshaei about his career, comedy, and business endeavors.

During their conversation, Youshaei inquired about any tips Rife had for individuals attempting to establish a presence on social media, using the Hawk Tuah girl as an illustration.

The Hawk Tuah girl, whose real name is Haliey Welch, gained widespread attention on the internet in the summer of 2024 when she used the phrase “hawk tuah”to refer to spitting during a street interview on YouTube. Since then, she has made appearances on Bill Maher, spent time with Shaq, and has become financially successful.

Despite everything seeming to be going smoothly for the beloved Tennessee native, Matt Rife is cautioning her that things can quickly take a turn for the worse if she isn’t careful.

The segment starts at 17:50.

Rife encouraged taking responsibility and making wise business decisions. He explained that despite any perception of overnight success in his career or the sudden fame of someone like the Hawk Tuah girl, there are no quick shortcuts to achieving success.

Rife believes that if he had achieved his current level of success four years earlier, he would not have been equipped to handle it from a business, endurance, or creative perspective.

“According to him, success heavily relies on timing. It is important to be prepared for any opportunities that arise. Take your time and do not feel pressured to achieve immense fame and recognition at this very moment, simply because it may not be happening for you currently.”

The comedian mentioned that he was aware of Welch’s desire to star in a reality show and urged her to pursue it, complimenting her as a wonderful person.

I am concerned about the negative effects that the entertainment industry and the internet can have on those who achieve success. While people may enjoy praising and elevating you, they are equally inclined to tear you down.

“Take advantage of the opportunity and cash out. This is your chance to make some money. It’s interesting how the internet can make anything famous, whether it deserves it or not. It seems like she’s a kind and enjoyable person. So go ahead, cash in, get a check, buy your mom a house, treat yourself to a fun car, but remember to be responsible,”he reminded. “Don’t forget that success can be fleeting, so make the most of it while you can.”

Just one month after having a flirty call with the Hawk Tuah girl, Rife’s remarks were made. During a podcast with Whitney Cummings, the girl had admitted that he was her celebrity crush.

The comedian extended an invitation for Welch to join him backstage at the upcoming Bridgestone Arena show in Nashville on August 24th, to which she eagerly agreed.

It remains to be seen if the two will collaborate later in August and if the popular comedian will share any further life advice with the young influencer.
