Each season of competitive Pokémon VGC play introduces new rules, and to kick off a new year of tournaments, hundreds of eager Scarlet & Violet players gathered in Baltimore for the recent 2025 Regional Championships. This season brought a significant overhaul to the existing ruleset.
While Regulation G previously allowed the inclusion of certain Legendary Pokémon, the current Regulation H ruleset completely prohibits the use of any Legendary, Mythical, or Paradox Pokémon, a change that likely contributed to the humble Maushold securing the VGC trophy.
The 2025 Baltimore regional concluded with Nicholas Morales being crowned the VGC champion. Morales, a skilled player from the Scarlet & Violet community, showcased an impressive team featuring Amoonguss, Incineroar, Pelipper, Basculegion, Archaludon, and – as you might have guessed – Maushold.
The response to Morales’ victory has been astonishing, especially considering the unexpected triumph of the diminutive mouse Pokémon. Many attendees at the Baltimore event were reported to have cheered enthusiastically whenever Population Bomb connected with opponents.

Not only did Maushold overcome Dragonite, but it also delivered a KO against an Alolan Ninetales in the finals, aiding Morales in achieving a crucial win.
Fans of Pokémon celebrated Morales and Maushold’s victory with quips like, “Don’t mess with the Haus of Maus” and “The OHKO graphic is so shady.”
For viewers wondering why Population Bomb hit 10 times when the normal cap is five, one Pokémon player explained that the move “has a lower base power, making it less likely to achieve such high hits.”
However, Morales equipped this Maushold with a wide lens, which enhances accuracy and brings the chance of achieving 10 hits closer to around 90%.
One fan tweeted, “Congrats to Maushold Family of 3 for winning Baltimore Regionals in VGC. (Only Child representation is important).” Another supporter chimed in, “maushold fans rise up,” and yet another added, “POP BOMB MAUSHOLD IS A REGIONAL CHAMPION!!!!”
Even the official Pokémon account on X joined the celebration, tweeting “Family” accompanied by a photo of the Family of Three form Maushold, a nod to Morales’ victory.
