In Frostpunk 2, effectively managing your fuel sources is crucial for survival, especially when it comes to staying warm. Coal is considered one of the more resilient and versatile fuel types in the game. Here’s how you can produce more Coal in Frostpunk 2.
Best Ways to Generate More Coal in Frostpunk 2
Most Efficient Coal Extraction in Frostpunk 2
The primary method for acquiring Coal in Frostpunk 2 is to extract it from the Shallow Coal Seams located near the central district of New London. As your city expands, your demand for Coal will increase significantly. To meet this need, it’s essential to explore additional methods of producing more Coal beyond what Extraction Districts can provide alone.
Research Dust Coal Mine
To maximize the efficiency of your Shallow Coal Seams, it’s crucial to research the Dust Coal Mine after establishing your Extraction Districts. Avoid the Blasting Coal Mine as it depletes resources more rapidly; instead, focus on those methods that prolong the life of your Coal Seams, especially into Chapter 3 following the initial Whiteout storm.
Research Charcoal Regeneration Plant
Once you’ve started extracting Wood Materials from the Vast Frozen Forests in southern New London, you should also focus on researching the Idea for the Charcoal Regeneration Plant. This facility will help you convert Wood Materials into Charcoal.
Although the Pyrolytic Charcoal Plant serves a similar purpose, it’s not as efficient in Coal production and demands higher Heat levels, which you should aim to minimize. Once you finalize research on this Idea, construct your Charcoal Regeneration Plant within one of your Extraction Districts to begin operations. Building multiple plants will significantly boost your Coal reserves.
Discovering Coal in the Frostlands
Remember to explore the Frostlands for outposts that contain additional Coal resources. Mobilize your available Frostlander teams to establish a supply line that can sustain your city for an extended period until resources are depleted.
Transition from Coal to Oil
As you progress in Frostpunk 2, Coal will become less valuable, so it’s wise to fill your Coal reserves while shifting your focus towards finding Oil. Once your colony has access to Oil reserves, you won’t need Coal as much. You can allocate excess Coal to support other colonies that still rely on it. Also, consider closing down coal mines in Frostlands to free up workforce for oil exploration.
