Exploring Yuji’s Journey from the Weakest to One of the Strongest in Jujutsu Kaisen
Itadori Yuji was born on March 20, 2003, to Jin Itadori and Kenjaku (Kaori). As a child, he possessed an unusually strong physique, effortlessly surpassing world records in various activities. For instance, he broke the world record for shotput throwing with a casual throw. However, his life took a drastic turn when he sensed something eerie at his school one day.
As a monster attacked his clubmates, Itadori realized they were in trouble. However, it was not until he met Fushigoro Megumi and discovered the existence of cursed spirits that he truly learned the complexities of the world. In an attempt to stop the rampaging monster, Itadori consumed a mysterious relic, which resulted in the awakening of Ryomen Sukuna within him.
Despite Sukuna’s attempts to go berserk and wreak havoc, he was unable to take control of his vessel due to Itadori’s strong willpower. After meeting Gojo Satoru, Itadori began his journey as a cursed sorcerer. His first mentor, Kento Nanami, taught him the Divergent Fist technique.
Despite being a simple technique that relied on a sorcerer’s cursed energy, it was a significant milestone for him. Unfortunately, it came at a cost – the loss of his first friend, Junpei. Later on, during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen, the protagonist encountered Aoi Todou, who would become a paternal figure to him.
The sorcerer instructed the protagonist in the challenging Black Flash technique, known to be one of the most difficult forms of dark magic. Not only did it require impeccable timing, but also great skill to execute. As expected, Itadori surpassed all expectations and was on track to break a record with this powerful technique.
Upon reaching the Shibuya arc, the protagonist underwent a significant growth in the Jujutsu Society as he witnessed the demise of his mentor Nanami Kento. This occurred when Sukuna possessed him and caused the deaths of numerous civilians, leaving the protagonist in a state of despair.
Despite facing challenges, the protagonist persevered and continued to cultivate his cursed energy manipulation with the support of his friends. When Sukuna departed from his body during the Culling Game arc, it marked a pivotal moment for the protagonist to hone his skills as a sorcerer. He seized this opportunity and demonstrated his progress in the Shinjuku Showdown arc of Jujutsu Kaisen.
After Gojo’s passing, Yuji and Higuruma joined the fight. Tragically, Higuruma fell soon after, leaving the protagonist with an opportunity to seek retribution. Utilizing the Blood Manipulation technique taught by Choso, the protagonist attempted to impress Sukuna. Unfortunately, Sukuna dismissed it as a mere party trick.
Despite being considered one of the weakest sorcerers, the protagonist proved his strength when he partnered with Yuta to face Sukuna. He was able to keep up with the special-grade sorcerer in his domain, demonstrating why he was still standing in Sukuna’s way. When Yuta left, Yuji faced Sukuna alone and awakened his cursed technique, which happened to be the same as the King of Curses, Shrine, in a one-on-one battle.
Despite revealing their blood relationship, the ongoing fight between the two continued. Sukuna, after pushing the antagonist to his limits, was forced to acknowledge the sorcerer he had always considered a nuisance. He then expanded his domain, but Yuji was ready and countered with his own technique, Simple Domain.
Despite his efforts, it still wasn’t sufficient as he had also lost Choso, a brotherly figure whom Yuji greatly admired. Once again, he fell into a deep depression, but was fortunately rescued by Todou. Together, they were able to corner the King of Curses, allowing Yuta to return to the battlefield, this time as Gojo. The intense battle between Sukuna and Yuji eventually reached a stalemate, during which the protagonist unleashed his untitled domain expansion.
Despite not expecting it, Nobara came to Yuji’s aid and helped him separate Sukuna from Megumi. The antagonist was reduced to a mere blob of meat and met a pitiful demise. While Sukuna had previously been reborn as the strongest, Yuji persevered through his determination and finally managed to defeat the curse that had plagued him his entire life.
