MC Garners Backlash After Distributing Used Water Bottles to Male Fans

A male MC is receiving criticism for distributing Oh My Girl’s used water bottles to male audience members.

During the Sun Moon Balloon Festival on May 22, 2024, Oh My Girl was among the artists who took the stage. The girl group put on an impressive set that lasted nearly half an hour for the university students in the audience. Although the girls looked stunning during their performance, unfortunately, it was not their set that caught the attention of online viewers.

Instead, the actions of the MC after their performance, which were deemed “disgusting”, were what went viral.

It was observed that the front of the audience consisted mainly of men. Although this may not necessarily predict any inappropriate behavior, the behavior of the MC and some festival attendees after Oh My Girl’s performance only adds to the discomfort felt by fans.

After Oh My Girl’s performance, the male MC distributed the members’ water bottles as prizes to male fans who had watched the girl group. In various fan-shared videos from the event, lucky fans were able to go on stage and choose which member’s water bottle they wanted to keep as a souvenir.

Once a video of the incident was circulated on the internet, Korean netizens were quick to voice their repulsion towards the situation. Numerous individuals noted that the male MC most likely did not obtain consent from the members before his actions, leading to speculation on whether this could be classified as sexual harassment. In fact, some went as far as to suggest that the male MC should be reported for his behavior.

The male fans who were given the water bottle also faced criticism, as people questioned their reasoning for doing so.

International fans were equally appalled, questioning how such actions could be deemed acceptable. The perverse mentality of certain individuals was strongly condemned, with particular disgust towards the fact that they were able to choose which member’s bottles to target.

Several comments were found stating,

  • “What the hell?”
  • “Wow, this is a big deal.”
  • “Doesn’t this need to be reported?”
  • “Is that MC crazy?”
  • “This is a disgusting idea.”
  • “This is so disgusting. Doesn’t this count as sexual harassment?”
  • “I bet they didn’t even get permission from the members.”
  • “Why do men do stuff like this?”
  • “This is peak incel behavior.”
  • “Ah, f*ck, this is so creepy and gross. I can’t tell who is worse; the creepy MC or the degenerate men who accepted it.”
  • “Disgusting pigs.”
  • “How do they do this and think it is normal? How do they not realize how perverted they look?”
