McDonald’s Reintroduces McRib: Shared Reactions and Thoughts from Fans

The beloved McRib has made its grand return at McDonald’s, but there’s a catch for American fans: it’s currently available exclusively in the UK. Interestingly, early feedback from UK customers has been quite consistent.

Originally removed from the menu back in 2005, the McRib has been highly anticipated for a comeback. It made a couple of fleeting appearances in the United States in 2022 during what was dubbed its “farewell tour” , reappearing briefly in 2023 as well.

In response to the excitement and speculation that ramped up throughout the summer, McDonald’s U.S. President Joe Erlinger confirmed that the McRib’s return is scheduled sometime in 2024.

In the UK, rumors preceded the announcement, with some app “glitches” sending a puzzling notification to millions: “McRib_test.notification_16.10.24” . Sure enough, on October 16, 2024, the McRib made its return, but only in the UK.

The sandwich will be available for a limited period, though the end date has yet to be disclosed.

The McRib is indeed “really back” , albeit for a short time.

So far, the excitement has drawn many fans to McDonald’s to experience this classic offering, either for the first time or after a lengthy hiatus of over ten years.

While there’s a lot of enthusiasm, some customers have expressed disappointment regarding the amount of sauce, particularly when compared to promotional images.

UK food reviewer, Bald Foodie Guy, also expressed his disappointment, despite acknowledging the size of the pork patty. “I expected the pork patty to be generously slathered in sauce,”he remarked.

“It really could use more sauce, in addition to more pickles and onions,” he suggested.

Another customer echoed similar sentiments: “Where is all the sauce? Where is that bold flavor?”

When Will the McRib Arrive in the U.S.?

If you’re feeling envious of the UK patrons at the moment, there’s good news: McDonald’s is set to bring the McRib back to American menus later this year.

In a statement to the Today show last July, U.S. President Joe Erlinger mentioned that the McRib would return at some point in 2024, although he didn’t specify when.

With only a few months remaining this year, the wait is unlikely to be long.

However, if the current UK experience is anything to judge by, American fans might wish for a bit more sauce when the McRib officially relaunches.
