McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing disappointment over the return of the beloved collectible Halloween buckets, criticizing the new design as a “downgrade.”
This year’s Boo Buckets have sparked frustration among customers, who are not pleased with the redesigned Halloween collectibles from the fast food giant.
A recent Instagram post by food news account Snackolator indicates that the collection features four bucket designs. However, instead of showcasing unique Halloween characters, each bucket presents a slightly modified version of a yellow-eyed monster.
In contrast to last year’s designs—which featured “Skeleton Orange,” “Mummy White,” “Vampire Purple,” and “Monster Green” —this year’s buckets are available in blue, green, orange, and white, each with its own distinct monster illustration.
Unlike previous designs, the 2024 Boo Buckets do not include lids, although they now display the McDonald’s Golden Arches on the handles, a departure from the prior year’s design, where the handles matched the bucket colors.
Snackolator highlighted that the 2024 lineup was revealed in another country, leaving some fans hoping for potential design variations in U.S. locations. Nonetheless, there are concerns that this may be the final appearance for this year’s Boo Buckets, prompting numerous critical comments about the redesign.
Feedback includes comments like, “Yuck, downgrade. Also, can we get a real lid,” and, “I think you all misunderstood why we liked the boo buckets lol, we like the nostalgia.”
Another fan expressed their discontent, stating, “Boooooooooo. And not the spooky kind,” while another noted, “These are cute but nowhere near as cute or iconic as the originals or even last year’s.”
As shared by Snackolator, fans can expect the collectible Boo Buckets to hit their local McDonald’s around October 14 or shortly thereafter.
