In Black Clover chapter 373, we witness Nozel Silva utilizing his close-range defensive spell, Mercury Magic: Silver Guardian. This technique allows him to encase his entire body in a protective layer of concentrated mercury.
Despite being solid enough to withstand repeated strikes from an opponent of at least Paladin-level strength, the mercury coating is also capable of cracking if broken. However, the magic spell remains flexible enough to not impede the user’s movements.
During the battle against his mother Acier Silva, Nozel Silva employs this magic spell after recognizing that only his younger sister Noelle possesses the incredible latent magic necessary to defeat their mother. As a result, he urges her to channel all of her mana and harness Leviathan’s power, along with their siblings Solid and Nebra, for a powerful attack.
He chose to solely concentrate on safeguarding his siblings and allowing Noelle enough time to charge up her attack. Luckily, Nozel’s magic spell proved effective in keeping his mother occupied.
Despite its impressive power, the Mercury Magic: Silver Guardian spell had a major flaw. Since mercury is toxic to humans, this spell was actually detrimental to the user. As a result, Nozel suffered intense pain and sustained passive damage while the spell was active.
Despite the fight being over, Nozel Silva was still seen lying on a rooftop with his siblings gathered around him. The wound on his left side, inflicted during his battle against his mother, was causing him immense pain alongside the effects of his magic spell. It is no surprise that he appeared weakened in the manga.
Despite this, it was also shown in the manga chapter that black lines were drawn both above and below Nozel’s eyes. Although it has not been officially confirmed, it is possible that Nozel is still experiencing the effects of his poisonous mercury magic and may require some restorative magic to prevent his condition from deteriorating further.
