Michael Keaton to Rebrand: What This Means for Fans of the Acclaimed Actor

One could argue that Michael Keaton has an excessive number of names (how many times can one say Beetlejuice?), and now there may be another… which will only add to the confusion.

The performer, who was last spotted in Beetlejuice 2 and is also highly acclaimed for his roles in Batman films, has not used his given name since 1978. Michael Keaton is a pseudonym, and there is a possibility that he may decide to alter it.

According to an interview with People Magazine, Keaton is considering changing his official acting credit, which may cause confusion for fans of another well-known Michael. It turns out that Keaton’s birth name is Michael Douglas, but as we all know, that name is already associated with another successful individual.

In reality, Douglas was the cause of Keaton’s inability to obtain a SAG card using his real name. This was due to there being a talk show host named Mike Keaton at the same time, making it impossible for him to use his nickname.

The acting credit would technically change to Michael Keaton Douglas, implying a certain level of differentiation.

Keaton recalled the process of choosing his stage name, stating, “I was searching through – I can’t recall if it was a phone book – and thought to myself, ‘I’m not sure, let me come up with something.’ Eventually, I settled on a name that seemed suitable.”

The conversation began because Keaton wanted to receive full credit for his 2023 directorial project Knox Goes Away, but he nearly overlooked it.

“I informed them, ‘Just a heads up, when it comes to my credit, it will be under Michael Keaton Douglas.’ However, I lost track of time and didn’t give them sufficient notice to make the necessary arrangements. But it will still be taken care of.”

The trailers and posters for the new movie make it clear that, for the time being, Keaton is still portraying MK exclusively.

According to Variety, Keaton expressed his emotions after watching his latest project, Beetlejuice 2, which will be released in theaters tomorrow, September 6. He revealed that the sequel is not only visually exciting and fun like the original, but also surprisingly emotional in certain parts. Keaton admits he was not prepared for this and describes the film as “beautiful and interesting.”
