Midjourney has recently declared that users will now be able to generate images on the platform without needing a Discord account.
In contrast to AI image generators such as Stable Diffusion and DALL·E 2, Midjourney cannot be downloaded onto your PC or accessed through a web app. The sole method of accessing it is through Discord. One must join the Discord server and submit a text prompt using Midjourney’s unique format, but this is about to change.
As stated by CEO David Holz on Discord, Midjourney now offers the ability to create up to 25 images for free on its website.
Signing up is still required to access the AI image generator, but if you prefer not to use Discord, you can choose to login with a Google account instead.
“According to Holz, we are proud to announce that our web image creation tools are now available to all users. Our website welcomes anyone to begin creating images. In order to allow people to familiarize themselves with the new platform, we have enabled free trials for a limited time, offering up to 25 images.”
Creating images on Midjourney is a simple process. All you have to do is visit the Midjourney website, register using your Discord or Google account, and input a prompt in the designated field located at the top of the page.
Customize the tone and focus of the images by choosing between “Strong”or “Subtle”. You can also browse through a selection of images created by others in the ‘Explore’ section, providing a level of personalization.
To ensure that you have a record of all your Discord images, it is recommended that you continue to log in to the website using your Discord account. If desired, you can also link your Discord and Google accounts under the ‘Account’ tab for future sign-ins.
The enclosed ecosystem that Midjourney had previously offered was alluring, however, with the rise of numerous AI image generators, individuals now have a wider range of options. Increasing accessibility to the platform would likely be a beneficial decision for potential growth in the future.
