Mid-Season Patch Leaves OP Apex Legends Weapon Unchanged

Respawn recently released a significant patch during Season 22, implementing extensive changes to Valkyrie. However, they chose not to adjust the weapon currently dominating Apex Legends gameplay.

With the onset of Season 22, Apex Legends has introduced a new Akimbo mechanic for both the P2020 and Mozambique. Players can now wield these weapons in pairs, effectively doubling their damage output and magazine capacity.

Apex Legends enthusiasts have been calling for a nerf to the Mozambique, as it has become overly powerful in both professional and casual play. During the ALGS Split 2 LAN event in August, competitors racked up over 200 kills using this weapon, which had barely any impact prior to this event.

The dual-wielding shotgun proves to be formidable in close quarters, allowing players to easily eliminate entire squads with sufficient ammunition due to its rapid firing capabilities.

Despite player feedback, the Apex developers opted not to modify the Mozambique in the mid-season patch. The only update related to the Mozambique was its designation as a Gold Weapon.

The absence of a nerf to this weapon took many players by surprise, as expectations were high for some alterations to its damage, given its status as one of the top weapons in the game.

“Crazy to see that the Akimbo Mozambs hasn’t been touched at ALL,” one player expressed on social media.

“Nice to see Valk got huge buffs but… BROTHER IN CHRIST NO MOZAM AKIMBO NERF,” another user added.

While Respawn may still consider adjusting the Mozambique in the future, players anticipated some form of change in this update due to the weapon’s overwhelming dominance.

Given the current circumstances, it may be reasonable for players to expect modifications to the powerful dual-wield shotgun as Season 23 approaches, which is anticipated to launch in late October 2024.
