Mike Perry discusses injury sustained from first punch of Jake Paul fight

Jake Paul emerged victorious over former UFC fighter turned bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry with a TKO, and his opponent disclosed the extent of the damage caused by the initial punch of the fight.

In the sixth round on July 20, ‘The Problem Child’ defeated Mike Perry, bringing his record to 9-1 and overcoming his loss to Tommy Fury.

Perry appeared as a guest on Paul’s podcast to reflect on the fight and expressed admiration for his opponent, acknowledging that he “performed well”and revealing his plans to take a break and allow his injured rib to fully recover.

Perry stated that his rib had cracked as a result of Paul’s initial punch, which drastically altered the course of the match.

“He said that your first punch during the first 10 seconds really caught him off guard.”

The segment starts at 1:30.

Perry proceeded to clarify, stating, “I was aware that people would criticize me for not keeping my hands up, but the truth is that my rib was exposed and vulnerable. As soon as you hit me in the rib, I knew I had to lower my hands. It was an instant reaction.”

Despite the injury, the BKFC star was proud of his performance and his ability to stay in the bout.

“While it was a tough fight, I am proud of the pieces I was able to take from it. However, I must admit that my opponent fought fairly and deserved the win. There were a few moments in the third round where I was able to land some hits and even make you bleed.”

Despite being originally scheduled for July 20, the same date as the Perry match, Jake Paul is now eagerly anticipating his highly-anticipated bout against Mike Tyson on November 15. Unfortunately, the fight had to be delayed due to an ulcer flare-up experienced by ‘Iron Mike’.
