After facing concerns about his age, Mike Tyson has addressed the idea that he may be too old to fight Jake Paul. He has also issued a warning to the former YouTuber, who has transitioned into a boxer, about facing Mike Perry.
Despite the initial excitement surrounding the announcement of the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, there were a significant number of critics who raised concerns about the 31-year age difference between the two fighters. Furthermore, with ‘Iron’ Mike having not competed in four years, it quickly became a major topic of discussion.
Despite the efforts of the two fighters to get the fight approved in Texas, former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder expressed disappointment at the commission’s decision to sanction the fight. He described it as “bad”and expressed his disapproval.
The November fight has been rescheduled, but Tyson has resumed his training and addressed Wilder’s worries about his age being a hindrance in the fight.
“Then let Mike get injured. You don’t have to worry about covering my expenses,”the legendary heavyweight stated in a recent interview with Esquire magazine during a training session. “People might argue that this doesn’t add up, but let’s consider his age. He doesn’t carry the same level of recognition as I do. He can’t just go to Mongolia and be recognized by anyone.”
Furthermore, Tyson maintains his belief that Jake is incapable of causing him harm. “To be frank, I truly don’t think he has the ability to hurt me. Coach, I genuinely don’t believe he can hurt me!”
Jake Paul will face off against boxing legend Mike Tyson live on Netflix in November.
As mentioned, Tyson’s ulcer flare-up caused the fight to be rescheduled from its original date of July 20 to November. In the meantime, Jake faced off against ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry.
Jake has already cautioned his fans that a loss to the former UFC fighter could jeopardize his match with Tyson, and he received a similar warning from Mike.
During the pre-fight press conference, he stated, “Mike Tyson expressed his concern about this fight potentially jeopardizing the biggest fight of my career. But that’s what motivates me and drives me to perform at my best. I won’t let anyone or anything slow me down.”
