Is the HYBE and ADOR Conflict Related to ILLIT’s Imitation of NewJeans?
In an exclusive interview with Korean media outlet Hankyung on April 22, 2024, current ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin revealed the reasons behind her ongoing conflict with HYBE Labels.
During the interview, she expressed concern that NewJeans and the group’s identity would be taken away from her once ILLIT debuted. She clarified that it wasn’t only BELIFT Lab, ILLIT’s label, that imitated NewJeans, but also HYBE.
According to her, HYBE, self-proclaimed leaders of K-pop, were driven by greed and chose to imitate NewJeans’ successful formula instead of creating something unique.
Despite numerous attempts to contact HYBE Labels, Min Hee Jin and ADOR did not receive any response to their requests and statements sent from BELIFT Lab. It is believed that they were seeking a statement regarding the reported infringement on NewJeans’ brand value before ultimately deciding to separate from HYBE Labels.
