Min Hee Jin Denies Accusations of Accusing Groups of Copying NewJeans
On April 26, 2024, Min Hee Jin granted an exclusive interview to No Cut News to discuss the ongoing issues between her and HYBE Labels. During the interview, the CEO of ADOR addressed various topics and clarified that she had never accused any groups of copying NewJeans, putting an end to the rumors.
The interviewer mentioned that a recent article alleged that Min Hee Jin accused BTS, TWS, and RIIZE of copying her, in addition to BELIFT Lab’s ILLIT.
Min Hee Jin promptly dismissed those rumors, clarifying that she had never made any statements about BTS, TWS, and RIIZE. She did, however, note that the Y2K trend gained popularity after NewJeans became well-known. She also acknowledged that she had accused HYBE Labels and BELIFT Lab of imitating NewJeans for ILLIT’s debut.
Min Hee Jin Reiterates Stance On ILLIT Copying NewJeans
Despite acknowledging that NewJeans drew inspiration and borrowed from Y2K, Min Hee Jin emphasized that its concept remains unique. She explained that the distinct identity of NewJeans is a result of her careful selection and combination of certain elements from that era. This, she claims, is what sets NewJeans apart from others.
During the debut of ILLIT, she noticed that HYBE and BELIFT Lab had utilized the same formula as she did for NewJeans. While she knew that others would likely attempt to incorporate the Y2K style, she believed that some aspects of ILLIT’s concept went too far. As a result, Min Hee Jin raised concerns and submitted an internal report requesting explanations from BELIFT Lab and HYBE.
Despite this, she maintains her belief that ILLIT’s debut was inspired by NewJeans’s formula. She clarifies that this is not a reflection of the members, but rather the fault of their management. Additionally, she restates that she has never accused BTS, TWS, or RIIZE of copying her.
