Min Hee Jin has responded to the rumors regarding her allegedly speaking negatively about the NewJeans members in a KakaoTalk message.
On May 31, 2024, at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, Min Hee Jin held her second press conference. During the conference, she addressed the events of the morning’s ADOR shareholder’s meeting and shared her thoughts. The ADOR CEO also participated in a Q&A session.
During the Q&A session, Min Hee Jin was questioned about a KakaoTalk conversation that had recently emerged, supposedly revealing her making negative remarks about the NewJeans members. The journalist inquired if she had since communicated with the members and if she had any comments to make about the situation.
Min Hee Jin stated that she could not remember making those statements.
The reporter asked for her explanation, but she replied, “To be honest, it may take a while to explain and I don’t remember the details well. Do you recall a conversation from three years ago? If I were to open it now and read what was said… Honestly, I don’t recall having those conversations.”
Despite stating that the KakaoTalk message was not a problem, she mentioned that the NewJeans members never approached her about it. Instead, they simply contacted her to see how she was doing.
Upon being questioned, Min Hee Jin clarified, “These matters hold no significance and are not valid concerns. The NewJeans members did not see the chat and reach out to me as a result. They contacted me out of concern for my well-being, not as a means to manipulate public perception.”
After her initial press conference, Min Hee Jin responded to allegations that she had been pretending. After the event in mid-April, there were rumors that Min Hee Jin had been overplaying her sadness and distress. Some even said she purposely looked unkempt in order to garner sympathy from the public.
When questioned about her actions during the press conference, she explained that her behavior was a result of the overwhelming circumstances she was in. She clarified that she is not an actress and it is unfair for people to accuse her of dressing a certain way or staging her appearance. Additionally, she pointed out that she had worn the same clothes for three days without washing them due to the situation, and changing clothes or putting on makeup would have been even more irrational.
She expressed her desire to refrain from discussing defamatory rumors and to protect the members of NewJeans by not mentioning them.
She expressed that it is not relevant to bring up this topic at the moment and involving the members in this discussion should be avoided. She reiterated her previous statement that in order to genuinely protect the members or any artists, their names should not be mentioned. She emphasized that even if there is curiosity, it is important for adults to exercise restraint. According to her, this is what true protection entails.
