Min Hee Jin has no desire to keep NewJeans for an extended period of time.
During a press conference at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul on May 31, 2024, CEO Min Hee Jin discussed her vision for NewJeans during ADOR’s shareholder meeting.
Min Hee Jin expressed her desire for NewJeans to live happily.
She spoke about entering the lives of NewJeans with the intention of teaching them not just about being celebrities, but also about life.
According to her, the children who joined were inexperienced and had a lot of potential, but lacked confidence in expressing it. They had aspirations of becoming famous, but were unfamiliar with the true essence of being an artist. Despite this, they still auditioned and joined the company, unaware of its workings. The crucial aspect is our method of teaching and mentoring them, and the type of individuals we strive to shape them into.
She mentioned that while they are under contract with ADOR, they are being mentored by Min Hee Jin.
The CEO of ADOR expressed, “I often remind our members that while they are under contract, they are learning alongside me. Throughout these seven years, they should acquire the necessary skills to support themselves in the future. How long they choose to stay with me is up to them. As they grow and mature, they will inevitably want to pursue their own paths. It is our responsibility to equip them with the ability to make independent decisions and sustain themselves. Just like a mother who spoon-feeds her children, we cannot always do everything for them. We must prepare them to be self-sufficient in the future.”
She stated that she hopes NewJeans will not feel obligated to renew their contract if they do not want to. She believes that after working diligently for seven years, they may want to pursue other aspirations such as studying abroad or getting married. Ultimately, she wants them to be able to live the life they desire after their time with the company.
Further clarifying her stance, she expressed her belief that it would be unwise for NewJeans members to renew their contract solely for the sake of profits. In her opinion, their well-being should be the top priority. Additionally, she does not see the value in being attached to specific artists and limiting oneself to a single concept, as she views K-pop as a constantly evolving genre.
She expressed, “I strongly believe that retaining and re-signing artists solely for the sake of the company’s benefit is unproductive. My vision for the K-pop industry is innovative and unprecedented. The members and their parents have shown interest and enjoyment in my vision. I am against the idea of the K-pop scene becoming stagnant as it takes away the fun. By having our own unique style, we can pave the way for other styles to also gain popularity. We can sustain ourselves by constantly exploring new ideas and approaches, which makes it all the more exciting. My goal was to not only make a profit, but also to serve as a positive role model for other businesses.”
