On Instagram, ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin clarified her actions after accidentally liking a controversial video of ILLIT “sniping”at NewJeans.
On May 25, the CEO of ADOR, Min Hee Jin, caused a stir among fans of ILLIT and Bunnies (a fandom for the group NewJeans) when she liked a contentious video featuring ILLIT.
Specifically, the video featured a segment from a Belift Lab YouTube series where the five members participated in a “ideal type”food World Cup. During this segment, ILLIT members were tasked with selecting between two options.
The majority of the members chose “Kalguksu”when given the choice between “Kalguksu (knife-cut noodle dish) vs. Galbijjim (braised short ribs).”
Upon first hearing it, viewers deemed the remark to be meaningless. However, upon further examination, some netizens expressed skepticism towards ILLIT’s decision and Belift Lab’s “problematic”caption, as they believed it was labeling a common food as a “trend.”
Some fans perceive this as a subtle attack on NewJeans Minji, who was recently criticized for her lack of knowledge on “Kalguksu.”This incident caused her to receive backlash for trying to portray a sophisticated image.
NewJeans’ parents also brought up this issue in their email to HYBE, stating that ILLIT’s remarks about the food could be considered as “gossip.”They expressed their annoyance at the mention of NewJeans in the group’s content, and placed responsibility on HYBE’s internal production team for not properly reviewing and editing the video.
The situation escalated when Min Hee Jin also showed her approval for the same clip. However, on May 26, the CEO stepped in to clarify and resolve any misunderstandings.
Min replied when a Bunny informed her about this.
“Some Bunnies earlier told me that I had clicked on “like”by mistake. Some fan sent me that link via DM and asked me to verify it so I entered the link.”
She denied intentionally liking it and responded by saying:
“I didn’t click the like button, I guess I might have double-tapped it by mistake. Thank you for letting me know.”
Upon viewing this, Bunnies aligned themselves with Min and expressed their thoughts:
- “Look at this, this is how you do it cleanly.”
- “I also double-tapped videos sometimes by mistake.”
- “It’s not even a hate video, so what’s the problem?”
In response to accusations made by Min Hee Jin that ILLIT was a copy of NewJeans, Belift Lab retaliated by filing a complaint against the CEO for obstructing their business and defaming their reputation.
The label released a statement on May 22nd asserting that ILLIT was not copied from NewJeans. They also provided evidence to the judicial authorities to demonstrate that the accusations were unfounded.
On May 31, there will be a general shareholders’ meeting with the purpose of removing CEO Min Hee Jin, in the presence of the ADOR board of directors.
