During the general meeting of shareholders on May 31, Ador CEO Min Hee Jin held her second press conference to express her thoughts regarding HYBE’s actions. On the same day, HYBE removed Min Hee Jin’s close associates and appointed a new board of directors nominated by the company.
Despite appearing fatigued at the first press conference, Min Hee Jin displayed more vitality this time in a vibrant yellow ensemble and minimal makeup. She maintained her personal opinions but delivered them in a gentler tone, while also expressing gratitude to those who have consistently supported her and NewJeans.
Despite some fans being upset by one of Min Hee Jin’s remarks, she stood by her statement that NewJeans’ success in their first two years was comparable to that of top boy groups in five or seven years. She confidently stated, “The profits I earned in just two years with Ador are equivalent to what top boy groups typically achieve in five or seven years. This is a remarkable feat for a girl group to accomplish within two years of their debut. I find it unjust to label a subsidiary CEO’s achievements as ‘betrayal’ when they have produced such exceptional results.”
Despite not explicitly mentioning any particular group, Min Hee Jin’s comment sparked discomfort among fans of male idols. Numerous individuals pointed out the rapid success of top boy groups as a rebuttal to Min Hee Jin’s statement.
Despite a rocky start, BTS achieved worldwide success just one year after their debut, solidifying their position as a top global group. Similarly, EXO had a global hit with “Growl”just one year after their debut and continued to release a string of successful hits, cementing their top position. Meanwhile, BIGBANG and Super Junior both achieved success right from the start of their debuts.
NewJeans made an undeniable impact with their debut in the world of K-pop, quickly rising to success with impressive hit songs. Their achievements were recognized just one year later when they were nominated for the top Daesang category at prestigious year-end award ceremonies, a rare accomplishment for a rookie group.
However, it was noted that although NewJeans is highly successful in the digital music market, they are unable to compete with boy groups in terms of tour earnings and album sales. Additionally, the boy groups mentioned by Min Hee Jin have been active for at least five to seven years.
Meanwhile, in its third year, NewJeans is already facing challenges due to conflicts between Min Hee Jin and HYBE. Furthermore, netizens have pointed out to Min Hee Jin that without BTS, NewJeans may not have even come into existence.
- “Isn’t she referring to the group that created HYBE? (BTS) Without that boy group, NewJeans wouldn’t exist, and she’s here bragging about them like this!”
- “Idols’ main revenue comes from albums and tours, but NewJeans hasn’t toured, and their album sales surely can’t match top boy groups!”
- “If they weren’t under HYBE, they would flop. They received enormous investment, massive media coverage as ‘BTS’s sister,’ their MVs were posted on HYBE’s channel with over 70M followers, and yet she brags about them like it’s all their own doing.”
- “She could have explained it normally, but she chose to offend other groups.”
