The turning point in the dispute between CEO Min Hee-jin and HYBE occurred in April when HYBE requested a shareholders’ meeting to address their allegations against the female CEO of trying to gain control of ADOR. HYBE’s objective at the time was to remove Min Hee-jin from her position as CEO. However, the court granted Min Hee-jin’s request for an injunction to limit HYBE’s voting rights, enabling her to remain in her role as CEO of ADOR.
At her second press conference, Min Hee-jin confidently proposed a resolution with HYBE. As anticipated, HYBE demonstrated an attitude that appeared to reject the suggestion. Therefore, it is evident that the possibility of mending the relationship between HYBE and Min Hee-jin is now non-existent.
After NewJeans’s comeback, the conflict momentarily calmed down but resurfaced once again. HYBE, along with its subsidiaries Belief Lab, which oversees ILLIT, and Source Music, the management company of LE SSERAFIM, proceeded to file a string of legal actions against Min Hee-jin.
In retaliation, CEO Min Hee-jin filed a lawsuit against 5 executives of HYBE, claiming that they had unlawfully obtained and released private messages and personal information. She alleged that the company had edited these materials to fit their agenda and used them to generate negative public sentiment. In response, HYBE announced that they would pursue legal action against these baseless allegations.
Amidst the legal disputes, there was also a struggle to win back the trust of the public. Min Hee-jin accused HYBE of breaking their promise and causing a delay in NewJeans’s debut, but HYBE fired back, alleging that the female CEO deliberately postponed the debut plan. At this juncture, the parents of NewJeans came forward, revealing Source Music’s mistreatment of the members prior to their move to ADOR and expressing their wish to remain with ADOR and CEO Min Hee-jin.
The issue surrounding Min Hee-jin’s alleged cover-up of a sexual harassment case within the company resulted in a controversy. Despite media reports, Min Hee-jin was confident that the source of the information was HYBE. In order to address the situation, the female CEO took to her Instagram Story and shared a detailed post clarifying the truth and correcting any misconstrued information.
Furthermore, Bunnies, also known as NewJeans fans, have declared their intentions to deliver funeral wreaths to the main entrance of the HYBE building from July 31st to August 2nd, as a form of protest against the agency. In addition, supporters of Min Hee-jin have organized a demonstration to defend both NewJeans and ADOR.
In the ongoing dispute between Min Hee-jin and HYBE, both sides have garnered support from different parties, such as NewJeans parents and fandom supporting Min Hee-jin, and HYBE labels Belift Lab and Source Music speaking up for their company. As a result, the situation has become increasingly chaotic and the original problems have been overshadowed. It remains uncertain how this conflict will ultimately be resolved.
