Lawsuit Filed Against HYBE Executives and Dispatch Journalists
On December 2nd, the prominent law firm Shin & Kim announced that former CEO Min Hee-jin has lodged a formal complaint with the Yongsan Police Station. The complaint targets former HYBE CEO Park Ji-won and Chief Communications Officer (CCO) Park Tae-hee for alleged violations related to the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, specifically citing illegal intrusion into private communications. Additionally, two reporters from Dispatch are being accused of defamation under the same statutory framework.
Allegations of Misconduct
The allegations are that since April, the defendants Park Ji-won and Park Tae-hee have misappropriated private conversations, which they reportedly obtained unlawfully, to manufacture a negative public narrative against Min Hee-jin. Furthermore, the law firm claims that Dispatch journalists, fully cognizant of the situation, have persisted in publishing misleading articles with the intent to tarnish Min’s reputation.
Objectives of the Lawsuit
Shin & Kim expressed their hope that this lawsuit will prompt a comprehensive investigation into the alleged deceitful actions of the defendants. They are seeking justice and appropriate legal repercussions for what they deem as serious misconduct.
Media Reporting and Potential Interference
Earlier in the day, Dispatch published claims asserting that Min Hee-jin had interfered with events surrounding NewJeans, such as a surprise YouTube live broadcast, as well as Hanni’s attendance at an inspection by the National Assembly and a recent press conference. These reports raised doubts regarding whether Min had been involved in any form of tampering.
