Min Hee-jin’s Viral NewJeans Demo Beat: Is She One Step Ahead in Music Trends?

Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of ADOR, made an appearance at the “2024 Hyundai Card Da Vinci Model” lecture hosted by Hyundai Card on April 28 in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. During this approximately 100-minute lecture, she boldly stated, “The lawsuit fee alone is 2.3 billion won, I will sell my house,” and “I am not guilty. I will ultimately win,” expressing her determination.

Furthermore, Min Hee-jin showcased her affection for NewJeans by unveiling an unreleased demo track of the group. Internet users have been buzzing with excitement in the comments, with reactions such as “The beat is incredible,” “I can visualize the members dancing,” “I’m thrilled just hearing the beat,” “I’m pleased to hear such high-quality music,” and “I hope they make a comeback soon.”

The unreleased demo track presented by Director Min Hee-jin was produced by Frank, who is the primary producer for NewJeans under BANA. Frank has previously worked on several hits for NewJeans, including “OMG,” “NewJeans,” “Cool With You,” and “Right Now.”

During the lecture, Min Hee-jin shared insights about the production process of the beat. She initially suggested a collaboration with Director Shin Woo-seok from Dolphiners Films, but since the top-line (melody) was not yet created, she decided to have him direct the music videos for “OMG” and “Ditto” instead. “I lured Director Shin Woo-seok with this song. I love this track. I want to share music I enjoy with you,” Min stated. “I’m uncertain about what will happen with our album, but I hope this song can reach the world.”

Following Min’s lecture, a plethora of content featuring the unreleased track’s beat has surfaced on YouTube. Numerous videos have been uploaded, including a one-hour version of the demo, a NewJeans music video compilation, and a speed-up version.

An insider from the K-pop industry remarked, “It is quite rare for an artist to release not just part of an unreleased song, but solely a demo beat version to the public. This suggests that Min Hee-jin is particularly confident in this track.”

Some analysts speculate that Min Hee-jin’s actions stem from her connection with BANA. BANA’s CEO Kim Ki-hyun, a former A&R member at SM Entertainment, is known to have worked alongside Min Hee-jin at the same company. It is quite possible that Min Hee-jin discussed this move with BANA beforehand. Nonetheless, there is still a chance that ADOR might challenge her decision to release the demo beat.

At present, Min Hee-jin is no longer the CEO but serves as an in-house executive at ADOR, and even a demo can be considered a company asset. In related news, an official from HYBE declined to comment on the matter to Ilgan Sports.

The timeline for NewJeans’ comeback remains ambiguous. LE SSERAFIM, another group under HYBE, returned in September, and ILLIT is scheduled to make their comeback on September 21st, but NewJeans’ return is in question amid internal disputes within the company. The unreleased song, which sparked significant fan reactions, might strategically position Min Hee-jin ahead in the competitive landscape.
