Minji’s Profile Update Sparks Speculation
On November 20, Minji of NewJeans made a notable change to her profile picture on the fan communication platform known as Phoning. The new image is a screenshot featuring Eunwoo and Jungwoo, the two sons of Kim Jun-ho, a former member of the national fencing team, who are currently capturing hearts on KBS2’s The Return of Superman.
Minji expressed her admiration for Eunwoo and Jungwoo in the past, stating, “I’ve been watching over Jungwoo and Eunwoo for some time now. I felt a strong desire to meet them in person, which led me to appear on The Return of Superman.” This affection towards the children could be the reason behind her updated profile picture. Nevertheless, its timing, which aligns with the departure of Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of ADOR from HYBE, has raised various interpretations among fans and industry observers alike.
Min Hee-jin Resigns Amid Controversy
The same day, Min Hee-jin announced her resignation as an internal director at ADOR and the termination of her shareholder agreement with HYBE. In her statement, she revealed, “I have devoted all my efforts to protecting NewJeans but accused HYBE of persecuting me by framing me as a usurper of management rights.” She described her experience as a “witch hunt” and criticized a production contract that included unreasonable clauses. Min Hee-jin further alleged that HYBE engaged in deceptive negotiations and manipulated media narratives while withholding important contract documents, referring to these actions as “atrocious acts that will go down in history.”
ADOR’s Response to the Situation
In reaction to Min Hee-jin’s resignation, ADOR issued a statement expressing their disappointment, noting, “We find it unfortunate that Director Min Hee-jin unilaterally informed us of her resignation. We remain committed to doing our utmost to support NewJeans’ growth and success.”
NewJeans’ Stance and Future Directions
As of now, NewJeans has not released an official statement regarding the changes. However, on November 13, the members issued a certification of contents demanding Min Hee-jin’s reinstatement and a thorough investigation into HYBE’s internal practices. They called for strict disciplinary measures concerning any misconduct and a public apology from the management responsible for allegedly disregarding member Hanni. The group firmly warned that they would terminate their contracts if their demands were not met, indicating significant unrest within the organization.
