The evolving landscape of Pokémon TCG Pocket has recently seen various Darkrai ex decks taking charge of the competitive scene, prompting nostalgia among players for the days when another iconic card reigned supreme. The newly released Space-Time Smackdown expansion introduced an impressive 207 cards, significantly altering the game’s meta and influencing the most popular decks in play.
Among the notable additions is the formidable Darkrai ex, which has quickly established itself as a leading force across multiple deck configurations. Yet, in the shadow of Darkrai’s dominance, players find themselves reminiscing about another powerful Mythical Pokémon that used to haunt their strategies.
Players Yearn for the Return of Celebi ex
A recent meme shared on Reddit by a Pokémon TCG Pocket enthusiast humorously suggested that the community’s previous disdain for the Celebi ex card may have been misplaced. The user confessed to having previously been a Celebi skeptic but has since changed their tune.

For those unfamiliar, the Celebi ex card from the Mythical Island expansion was a game-changer, particularly due to its Power Bloom attack, which allowed players to deal 50 damage for each heads flipped on coins corresponding to the Energy attached. When combined with the Serperior card, whose Jungle Totem ability doubles the energy on a Pokémon, this duo created an overwhelming strategy that many players found challenging to counter.
Players often resigned to defeat upon seeing either of these cards on the field; a sentiment that is echoing today with the rise of Darkrai ex. One player shared, “FOR REAL LOL, this is the first time I made and used a Celebi deck, ” while another commented, “Celebi is objectively a fun deck to play with and against. I can’t believe it got so much hate when you always have a chance to beat it.”
Amidst the nostalgia, some players remain critical of Celebi, but others are channeling their energy into devising strategies to overcome the looming presence of Darkrai. One frustrated user stated, “I am just so tired of the Darkrai decks that I have built the ultimate stall deck with two Venusaur EX, two Shaymin, and every single healing card in the game. Until Venusaur can use the healing attack I literally do not attack.”
Conversely, a Darkrai enthusiast provided insights on how to challenge this dominant deck.“Use Exeggutor EX; just one energy can deal 40-100 damage, and it benefits from +20 against darkness. Pair it with green cards for sustained health. As a Darkrai main aiming for a 45-win streak, Exeggutor EX presents my toughest challenge, ” they explained.
Since the Space-Time Smackdown set launched less than a week ago, the game’s meta is still in flux. Potential shifts could occur, especially with rumors circulating about upcoming themed booster packs and Genetic Apex Rare Packs, which may impact deck strategies in the near future.
