Modders Create Adorable Keychain-Sized Wii

A duo of modders has successfully crafted the tiniest rendition of the Nintendo Wii, aptly named ‘Nintendo Kawaii’.

Despite causing great distress to Millennials, the Nintendo Wii has now been classified as a retro console. In order to showcase their fondness for this console, two modders have designed a miniature version of the Wii that can even be carried on a keychain due to its small size.

The tiny Wii known as the Nintendo Kawaii was created by modders Wesk_Mods and YveltalGriffin and is fully functional despite its small size.

Wesk and Drew, another modder, successfully figured out the required procedures. They had to undervolt the Wii’s internal hardware, enabling them to create a completely passive cooling system.

The primary console unit measures only 60x60mm and utilizes a magnetic pogo-pin connector for connection to a dock. The docking unit houses all the necessary connectors for GameCube controllers, allowing for the same backward compatibility as the original console.

Wesk and Yveltal describe the intended specifications as follows:

  • 60x60x16mm CNC’d aluminum chassis (passively cooled) with laser-etched artwork
  • Undervolted OMEGA trim with Thundervolt
  • 12-pin magnetic pogo pin connector (MagSafe-like)
  • Internal breakout PCB for SD-USB, input protection, and video mixing
  • Dock with USB-C power input, x4 GameCube controller ports, composite/component video output, & stereo audio output
  • Six acrylic windows with RGB LEDs for peak aesthetics
  • Keychain loop

The modding duo is looking to make this tiny custom console a reality by offering individuals the chance to purchase it during the initial production phase.

To cover the expenses of CNC aluminum, anodizing, and laser etching, a minimum batch of 30 units is required. For $55, customers who purchase in will receive the shell in their preferred color, along with all necessary screws. This price also incorporates the cost of shipping.

To purchase the Nintendo Kawaii, individuals are requested to visit the BitBuilt forums and complete a form.
