Despite launching with all the guns from its predecessor, Modern Warfare 3, the arsenal from Modern Warfare 2 had been overshadowed by the new weapons in both MW3 and Warzone due to their perceived superiority.
Nevertheless, in light of the Season 3 update, the developers have aimed to tackle this issue by implementing a significant buff to all MW2 weapons. This is in the hopes of improving their viability in both multiplayer and BR modes.
In the Season 3 patch notes, it was stated that the developers had reduced the obstructive visual effects when firing MW2 weapons to match the standards of MW3. This was in reference to the thick gun smoke that was often a hindrance to players’ visibility while shooting.
They have also implemented changes to “remove variance from ADS Idle Sway,”with the goal of increasing predictability while aiming down sight for longer periods of time when firing each weapon.
This update has been implemented for the complete roster in both games, including the newer MW3 lineup. However, the problem was particularly prominent in MW2 weapons before the update.
The developers explained that the idle sway when aiming down sight is designed to discourage players from consistently holding their sights for long periods of time. This subtle movement introduces a slight inaccuracy, raising the skill ceiling and rewarding players who have mastered their preferred weapons.
With a wide selection of over 100 weapons available in Warzone and Modern Warfare 3, the team is aiming for these minor yet impactful modifications to revive the popularity of fan-favorite guns from Modern Warfare 2 in both games.
The desired effect of the recent changes remains to be seen, but when combined with the new additions and various buffs and nerfs, the meta of Season 3 has the potential to be more competitive than ever before.
