Despite high anticipation for the H2M MW2 mod, Activision’s decision to shut it down a day before its release has led to Modern Warfare Remastered receiving numerous negative reviews and criticism.
The H2M mod, which aimed to incorporate MW2 (2009) multiplayer content into the game, caused an unexpected surge in hype for the Modern Warfare remaster on August 12.
The game’s reveal and strategically timed sale caused it to skyrocket to the top of Steam’s best-selling list, eventually reaching the third spot.
Despite being scheduled for release on August 16, the mod was ultimately halted due to a cease and desist from Activision, which put an end to all development. As a result, players of CoD have begun review bombing the game in protest.

Currently, Modern Warfare Remastered has received an overwhelmingly negative response, with many criticizing Activision for removing the H2M mod.
According to a player, they only acquired the game because of H2M, but unfortunately, they had to wait for a long time until receiving a cease and desist notice. The player expressed their frustration and disappointment towards Activision, stating that they can never satisfy their customers.
According to another reviewer, Activision has put in an immense amount of effort to ensure that players do not have an enjoyable experience with this game. They believe that the game is not worth its full price, the multiplayer is unplayable, and any attempts to fix it with mods result in legal action.
The reviews section contains numerous similar criticisms, with several users directing foul language towards Activision and advising others to get a refund before the allotted time period expires.
“The person stated that Activision’s recent actions have shown their lack of concern for players and their focus solely on making money. They also mentioned receiving a refund.”
Right as the mod was revealed, Modern Warfare Remastered was put on sale, but the sale ended on August 15 – a day earlier than its intended release date.
The remaster saw a surge in its player count, reaching a peak of 2,557 players, thanks to the recent sale and the buzz surrounding the mod. This is the highest player count the game has seen since early 2017.
