This theory, posted on the r/Boruto thread on Reddit, proposes that Momoshiki Otsutsuki could potentially be a clone of Shibai Otsutsuki, who was later introduced in the manga series. Shibai is depicted as an Otsutsuki deity with unimaginable powers, so much so that he surpassed the limitations of the physical realm and no longer needed a physical form. This concept serves as the core of the theory.
The Karma seal causes the host body to grow horns resembling the Otsutsuki entity residing within them. However, Boruto is an exception to this rule as his horn bears a striking resemblance to Shibai Otsutsuki. This discovery was the first clue indicating a possible connection between Boruto, Shibai, and Momoshiki.
This theory proposes that Shibai, after consuming an excessive amount of Chakra Fruits, transcended this plane by shedding his physical body. It is believed that the reason for this was his body’s inability to endure the immense power he had acquired. It is speculated that he may have needed a more resilient vessel, one capable of withstanding his immense powers.
As a result, he dispatched several of his clones, potentially including Momoshiki, to find a suitable vessel for him to inhabit. This would also explain the animated response Momoshiki had upon witnessing the protagonist’s death.
It is widely believed by fans that the mark visible on Boruto belongs to Shibai, leading some to theorize that Momoshiki is merely a replica of the true Otsutsuki deity. Furthermore, Momoshiki appears to possess a greater understanding of Shibai’s godly powers and methods of attaining them compared to other Otsutsuki members.
The grand reveal in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex may introduce Otsutsuki God as the ultimate enemy that Boruto and his friends must confront in the series.
