MomTok Members Resign: Leadership Decision Still Pending

Since its inception in 2022, MomTok has been prominently led by TikToker Taylor Frankie Paul, who played a pivotal role in guiding the group’s direction and decisions.

However, after Taylor found herself embroiled in not one, but two major scandals within the Mormon community, she decided to take a step back from the viral TikTok collective. This allowed the remaining members to cultivate their own fan bases by generating independent content.

Fortunately, Hulu’s series Secret Lives of Mormon Wives rejuvenated MomTok, bringing together the eight original members: Taylor Frankie Paul, Whitney Leavitt, Layla Taylor, Demi Engemann, Jessi Ngatikaura, Jenn Affleck, Mikayla Matthews, and Mayci Neeley.

Even though Season 1 of the show received positive feedback, Taylor opted to relinquish her leadership role within MomTok, allowing the women to navigate the group’s dynamics once more.

Additionally, during the series, Whitney announced her departure from MomTok. Despite this shake-up, the collective persevered and thrived amidst the drama. The question remains: Who is steering the group now that Taylor and Whitney have stepped back?

When queried about the new “leader”of MomTok, the group’s eight members had differing opinions, which led to a lively discussion.

“Anyone who feels the need to be the leader is somewhat toxic, in my opinion,” expressed Jenn Affleck. Mikayla Matthews noted that those who feel inclined to take “initiative on any given day” typically do so.

Whitney Leavitt suggested that each member of MomTok has stepped up in their own right, stating, “I don’t believe there’s one leader at this moment.” Mayci Neeley echoed this, affirming, “I don’t think there is one leader currently.”

Nonetheless, Layla Taylor named Jessi as the group’s leader, explaining, “I feel like Jessi has really been stepping up and helping us plan things for the premiere.”

In line with this, Taylor Frankie Paul backed Jessi’s leadership choice, citing her natural business acumen and ability to take charge.

Demi Engemann praised Taylor Frankie Paul for fostering an environment where the women can assert their own ideas, even after initially leading the group. “While Taylor was the founder and leader, she effectively allowed us to express our thoughts and contribute our ideas,” she stated.

As for Jessi Ngatikaura, she mentioned that leadership roles seem to “evolve.” She remarked that Season 1 of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives demonstrated to the group that a formal leader wasn’t necessarily essential. Still, she did acknowledge that she often naturally takes charge.

Despite the ongoing debate about who leads the MomTok group, all members unanimously expressed a desire to reunite for another season of Hulu’s Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
