Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season: YOASOBI announced as theme song artist

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the official website and X account for the Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season announced that the popular J-pop duo, YOASOBI, has been chosen to sing the theme song, Undead, for the anime. Further information about the song will be revealed on Friday, May 3, 2024, through a special video.

The release of Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season is scheduled for 2024, but the official staff has not yet announced a specific release date or time frame for the series. Nonetheless, fans are eagerly anticipating the sequel, which will be based on Nishio Isin’s Off Season and Monster Season light novels and produced by SHAFT Studios.

Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season reveals YOASOBI’s Undead as the theme song

The Monogatari anime’s official website had a countdown set for May 1, 2024, which ended on May 2, 2024, at 6 PM JST. The announcement was made that J-Pop duo YOASOBI will be performing the theme song, Undead, for the upcoming Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season anime.

The website also announced that a portion of the theme song for the Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season will be showcased on ABEMA TV on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 8 PM JST as part of a special program.

The most recent update confirms that the official site’s countdown, which featured the cryptic “Y,”was referring to YOASOBI. This Japanese pop duo has previously created theme songs for various anime.

For instance, they sang the opening theme song, Hero, for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and also performed the opening track, Idol, for Oshi no Ko.

It is worth noting that YOASOBI’s comments have been posted on the official website, as well as the X account for the Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season anime. In a recent interview, composer Ayase revealed her admiration for the Monogatari series as a whole, with Bakemonogatari being her personal favorite.

When she learned she would be responsible for the music in the newest project, she was overjoyed. In a similar manner, Lilas Ikuta, the vocalist from YOASOBI, shares that she took great care in conveying the emotions of each character through her performance of the theme song. Both Ayase and Lilas Ikuta have high expectations that the audience will appreciate the theme song, Undead.

At SHAFT studios, Midori Yoshizawa is credited as the director for this anime, while Akiyuki Simbo serves as the chief director. Miku Ooshima is responsible for writing the scripts, under the supervision of Fuyashi Tou and Simbo-san.

The character designer and chief animation director, Akio Watanabe, has returned to the franchise alongside Kana Miyai and Nobuhiro Sugiyama. Satoru Kosaki will also be reprising his role as the music composer.

As previously mentioned, the Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season anime is scheduled to premiere in 2024. Unfortunately, the exact release date has not been announced by the staff. However, the anime will be based on Nisho Isin’s Off Season and Monster Season light novels.

The Off Season light novel is a compilation of various side stories that delve into the lives of numerous characters. It consists of four distinct arcs: Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari.

The Monster Season light novel, on the opposite end of the spectrum, spans six arcs and takes place in a separate timeline, detailing Koyomi Araragi’s experiences during his university years.
