About the Mononoke anime movie

The highly anticipated film, Mononke the Movie: Karakasa, is expected to premiere in Japan on July 26, 2024. While originally planned for a 2023 release, the movie faced delays due to production and staffing complications, as previously mentioned.

In February 2023, it was announced that Hiroshi Kamiya will be taking over the role of Medicine Seller in the film, replacing Takahiro Sakurai. This decision was made after it was revealed that Takahiro-san would not be reprising his role as the voice actor for the character.

Kenji Nakamura, who was part of the original franchise, has been brought back to direct the Mononoke anime movie produced by Twin Engine at EOTA. The character designer for the film is Kitsuneko Nagata, while Taku Iwasaki has been chosen as the music composer.

Yuichi Takahashi has been added to the staff as the animation director, alongside Shigeru Nishiyama who serves as the editor. Serving as producers are Kimiaki Sato and Yuki Sudo, with Yukio Nagasaki taking on the role of sound director.

The film is a sequel to the original television series, which aired from July 2007 to September 2007 and consisted of 12 episodes. It takes place in Ooku, the inner chambers of the Edo castle, and follows the story of a Medicine Seller who exorcises Ayakashi that are born from the grudges of women.
