The severity of legal and ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) has been a major concern for the public, with industry professionals also recognizing the gravity of the situation.
There has been a recent uproar surrounding OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, for utilizing the voice of Scarlett Johansson, a popular Hollywood actress, without her consent. Johansson has vehemently voiced her opposition, stating “I was taken aback upon discovering the striking resemblance of the ChatGPT voice to my own.”
Despite Scarlett Johansson’s strong reaction through her lawyer, OpenAI ultimately chose to suspend their voice service in response to the issue.
Afterwards, OpenAI launched Sky, which is one of the five ChatGPT voice services. Due to the striking resemblance of Sky’s voice to that of Scarlett Johansson, there was once again controversy surrounding the AI company, with some accusing them of stealing the actress’s voice once more.
The actress stated, “Last September, the CEO of OpenAI approached me with an offer to provide the voice for their upcoming GPT-4o. However, I declined due to personal reasons.”She went on to say, “When I heard the voice in the video that was released, I was incredibly surprised and frustrated because it sounded almost identical to my own.”Foreign media outlets reported on the matter, speculating that OpenAI could potentially face legal repercussions.
In recent news, OpenAI has announced the disbandment of their Super Alignment team, a technology development team responsible for ensuring AI safety and control. This decision has led to concerns among many individuals that the team’s disbandment and the departure of key members may have impacted OpenAI’s safety awareness and contributed to recent incidents.
With the advancement of AI technology, there has been a rise in the production of videos featuring various singers performing the same song on YouTube. Recently, a video of AI-generated footage of IU singing BIBI’s popular track “Bam Yang Gang”caused controversy in Korea. Both IU and Park Myung-soo’s versions of the song have accumulated hundreds of thousands of views, despite neither of the celebrities actually performing in the videos. Instead, AI was used to mimic their voices and create these viral videos.
The seriousness of this issue heightened when celebrities began expressing their discomfort. After hearing an AI song, singer Jang Yoon-jung remarked, “This is quite serious. It gave me goosebumps,”and went on to say, “I used to believe that AI could never sing, but if it’s capable of this, is there even a reason for singers to put in effort to record songs?”
Park Myung-soo expressed his surprise at his AI rendition of “Bam Yang Gang”, commenting, “I can’t believe how closely it resembles my voice.”He further admitted, “I have never sung that song before, so I was not expecting such a close resemblance. I am concerned for our celebrity colleagues, what should they do in this situation?”
With the development of AI voices becoming increasingly similar to human voices, there is a growing concern for safety, including legal and social issues.
