In December 2024, fans can look forward to the return of the popular manga series Moriarty the Patriot, created by Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi. According to the latest news from Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine, the highly anticipated second part of the series will be released exactly two years after its initial run from August 2016 to December 2022. The first part of the series, consisting of 19 volumes, ended in December 2022, but now it is set to make a comeback in December 2024.
The Moriarty the Patriot manga is an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s last Sherlock Holmes novel, Valley of Fear. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see the direction Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi will take with this sequel. Additionally, some fans are hoping that the manga’s return to serialization will also lead to a revival of the anime adaptation produced by Production I.G from 2020 to 2021.

The Moriarty the Patriot Manga Set to Reappear in Late 2024
As previously announced, the Moriarty the Patriot manga is set to resume serialization in Jump Square magazine in December 2024, following the conclusion of the first part in December 2022. This return comes after the conclusion of the spinoff series, also titled The Remains, earlier this month.
At the time of writing, there is currently no information available about the storyline of the second part. This is particularly noteworthy since the manga is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes novels. Given that the first part covered the final Holmes novel, Valley of Fear, it will be intriguing to see the direction that Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi choose to take.
The premise of the series
The manga Moriarty the Patriot follows the tale of William James Moriarty, a criminal consultant and the arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holmes. Set in the 19th century, the manga depicts William’s strong disdain for the British Empire and his efforts to bring down the unjust social hierarchy through various criminal acts, in order to create a society that aligns with his moral beliefs.
During his journey, he encounters Sherlock Holmes and they develop a competitive relationship as the infamous detective. This sparks a contest of wit between the two individuals, challenging their skills and intelligence in an entertaining and imaginative manner.
