Mortal Kombat 1 has already launched its first Kombat Pack featuring a variety of guest characters, with a second pack and an initial story expansion on the horizon.
MK1 boasts an impressive starting roster filled with numerous beloved characters. The introduction of new fighters revitalizes the game and re-energizes the community.
The next wave of characters will come through a second DLC pack, set to debut alongside a story expansion titled Khaos Reigns.
Here’s everything you need to know about Mortal Kombat 1’s previous and upcoming DLC offerings.
Confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Characters
NetherRealm unveiled the final Kombat Pack 1 character – Takeda – in July 2024. Below is the complete list of fighters included in the first pack.
Kombat Pack 1
Ermac
Ermac originated from a supposed glitch in the original Mortal Kombat – the Error Macro bug. He evolved into a complete character, complete with traditional ninja attire.
Quan Chi
The mind-bending Quan Chi has been a fan favorite since his debut in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. As a powerful sorcerer, he remains an integral part of the franchise, and MK1 saw his return.
Takeda Takahashi
Takeda Takahashi, a newer addition to the MK universe, was portrayed as Kenshi’s son in earlier depictions. However, Liu Kang’s rebooted narrative casts Takeda as a Yakuza member and cousin to the blind ninja.
Homelander
The Boys franchise made a surprising entry into Mortal Kombat with the inclusion of Homelander, especially following his earlier appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, showcasing the series’ growing impact.
Often depicted as the quintessential American hero, Homelander is anything but heroic, making him a fitting addition to the MK universe as one of the most powerful characters in The Boys.
Peacemaker
Portrayed by John Cena in The Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker TV series, Peacemaker embodies another morally ambiguous hero with darker tendencies. Additionally, his presence brings John Cena into the Mortal Kombat realm.
Omni-Man
The guest character roster continues with Invincible’s Omni-Man, who was the first comic book character added to MK1’s lineup. With superhuman strength, speed, and near invulnerability, he is a formidable opponent.
Kombat Pack 2
During SDCC 2024, NetherRealm revealed their Year 2 plans for Mortal Kombat 1, which include six additional guest fighters listed below.
Cyrax
Cyrax makes a return as a gender-bent version of the beloved cyborg. While details about Cyrax’s role in the rebooted universe are slim, a trailer for Khaos Reigns hints at her loyalty to Grandmaster Sub-Zero being put to the test.
Sector
Sektor, who debuted alongside Cyrax in Mortal Kombat 3, returns as a playable character with the new DLC. Both characters were featured as Kameo fighters in MK1, but will now battle as stand-alone Kombatants.
Noob Saibot
Kaiji Tang is set to reprise his role as Noob Saibot, who will also be known as Bi-Han. The implications for Sub-Zero’s storyline in MK1 remain to be seen, especially since Titan Havik has claimed control of his soul.
Conan the Barbarian
This iconic character will finally join Mortal Kombat after much anticipation. Interestingly, he will be the second character associated with Arnold Schwarzenegger featured in an MK title, following the T-800 from MK11.
T-1000
From the Terminator franchise, T-1000 from Judgement Day is confirmed to join the roster, with actor Robert Patrick reprising his role.
Ghostface
Another character previously leaked for MK1, Ghostface from Scream, will now enter the ring, joining other horror legends like Freddy Krueger and Jason.
The Year 2 rollout will see Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot available on September 24, coinciding with the Khaos Reigns expansion. Launch dates for Ghostface, Conan, and T-1000 have yet to be specified.
Mortal Kombat 1 Rumored DLC Characters
In addition to confirmed DLC fighters, a variety of names have surfaced as potential candidates:
- Cassie Cage
- Exit
- Kano
- Kung Jin
- Kotal Kahn
- He-Man
- Deathstroke
- Doomslayer
- Harley Quinn
It’s notable that every character confirmed for Kombat Pack 2 appeared on a list of previously leaked and rumored fighters.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns
In addition to character reveals for Kombat Pack 2, the Khaos Reigns story expansion was prominently featured during SDCC 2024.
This story expansion is scheduled for release on September 24 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. Players can buy the $60 bundle, which will include Khaos Reigns, Kombat Pack 2, and one week of early access to all guest fighters.
A premium offering called the Khaos Reigns Kollection priced at $89.99+ will bundle the base game, both Kombat Packs, and the upcoming story DLC.
The new storyline expands upon Liu Kang’s New Era, reintroducing some familiar faces.
Liu Kang must confront Titan Havik and rally his trusted allies while finding common ground with former foes. If Havik succeeds, chaos could engulf the New Era.
The recently released trailer showcases the rising tensions, particularly between Cyrax and Sektor. Additionally, it teases the return of Animalities and offers a first look at one of Ghostface’s fatal Fatalities.
