The Mortal Kombat 1 community remains divided on the significance of the Homelander voice actor after viewing the teaser trailer.
At CCXP Mexico, the first teaser trailer for MK1’s upcoming Homelander DLC was revealed by WB Games and NetherRealm. The 45-second preview showcases the character’s unusual milk-drinking behavior and a Fatality that involves a commercial airliner. It also provides a brief glimpse of Homelander’s voice, which is different from The Boys actor Anthony Starr’s.
During the trailer, Liu Kang issues a warning to Homelander that he has “chosen to wage war against a God,”to which the superhero in blue responds, “No, it is you who have chosen this path!”Due to this, there is not much to evaluate in terms of the voice’s quality. However, fans of Mortal Kombat have their own opinions on the matter.
One individual responded to the MK Twitter account, stating: “Wow, that voice sounds absolutely dreadful.”
After going through the comments, a different user pointed out, “the fact that the identity of the person is being debated says a lot lmao. If it’s not Antony Starr, the voice actor did an impressive job.”
The Reddit community of Mortal Kombat appears to be more united as one post states that Starr’s absence from the MK1 role is no longer a concern due to Homelander’s impressive appearance. This sentiment is echoed by 1,200 upvotes and numerous comments, indicating a widespread agreement among users.
“As long as the person voicing him can make him sound sufficiently menacing and not be as poor as Arnie’s portrayal of the Terminator in MK11, I have no objections,”another individual stated.
Despite potential concerns about the voice acting, many Mortal Kombat 1 fans may overlook them due to Homelander’s character model, Fatalities, and Starr-inspired mannerisms. However, a longer gameplay trailer on the web will provide a better understanding of how the character sounds.
The anticipation for a gameplay reveal should be short-lived as Homelander’s MK1 debut is still scheduled for Spring 2024.
