Mother Reveals Seeing Accused Killer in Netflix’s Unlocked Series

A mother has shared her struggles with seeing the person accused of killing her son in the Netflix series Unlocked: A Jail Experiment.

Unlocked: A Jail Experiment is a hybrid of a reality show and a documentary series, chronicling the experiences of 46 actual inmates at Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility in Little Rock. For six weeks, these inmates reside in a unit where their doors are unlocked, giving them unexpected freedoms and privileges.

The social experiment, led by sheriff Eric Higgins of Arkansas, is designed to explore whether a greater level of independence can promote a community-focused living environment. However, the show has sparked controversy, as some have raised concerns about the participation of criminals in a reality series.

Hailey Shackelford has recently come forward to condemn Unlocked: A Jail Experiment after learning that Jordan Parkinson, a participant in the show, had been charged with capital murder for the 2022 killing of her son Jadon Shackelford.

In an interview with Fox16, the mother expressed her concern about the Netflix show, stating that while she understands the purpose of creating a show, it is important to consider the impact it has on real people. She also expressed her belief that individuals who have committed violent crimes should not be given any form of reward.

Hailey Shackelford felt “blindsided” by the show

Jordan, who is only 20 years old, is among numerous individuals incarcerated in Unlocked: A Jail Experiment, as he was arrested for the January 2022 killing of Jadon in Little Rock. Jordan was subsequently released on bail after one of his fellow inmates, Evan Franklin, was found to be the perpetrator.

Despite the difficulty, Shackelford has still watched the Netflix series that features someone associated with the crime. However, she has been unable to finish a full episode and regrets not being given a warning beforehand.

“She acknowledged, “Seeing someone who took your child from you has a strong impact on you. I am aware that if it is causing me pain, it is likely causing the same pain to other families.”
