MrBeast’s reality series “Beast Games”has drawn comparisons to the infamous Fyre Festival, with crew members citing “deplorable conditions”during production.
Announced in early 2024, MrBeast is set to launch a reality TV show titled ‘Beast Games,’ which will air on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.
Approximately 2,000 contestants are competing for a staggering $5,000,000 prize, with reports indicating that the initial group of contestants was eliminated through various events held in Las Vegas, as noted by Rolling Stone.
The publication had an exclusive interview with a production crew member, who shared that filming is expected to wrap up by mid-September. However, the official release date for Beast Games remains uncertain at this time.
According to Rolling Stone, internal documents, non-disclosure agreements, and set photographs obtained from the filming in Toronto reveal that crew members described the environment as potentially unsafe, citing it as “disorganized” and “wild.”
One production staffer drew a stark comparison between the show and the Fyre Festival phenomenon, noting that the crew lacked experience. “It’s a Fyre Fest kind of feeling,” the individual remarked. “There’s a reason why this level of production hasn’t been attempted before, and it certainly should never have been attempted without expertise.”
For those unfamiliar, the Fyre Festival was a music festival orchestrated by rapper Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland in 2017, heavily promoted by celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber. However, it failed to deliver on its promises, lacking essential infrastructure for a safe and enjoyable event. McFarland was ultimately sentenced to six years in prison for fraud against investors and ticket buyers.
One contestant, Scott Leopold, expressed his desire to participate in Beast Games, citing the opportunity as beneficial for his acting career, yet he described the conditions on set as “deplorable.”
“They were in over their heads and they didn’t know what to do,” he stated. “People were just improvising in ways they couldn’t manage.”
MrBeast has faced significant backlash in recent months, especially after former employee Ava Kris Tyson was accused of grooming a minor in July. Following these allegations, there have been claims of illegal firing and content theft from another YouTube personality.
On August 9, 2024, an internal email was leaked, indicating that MrBeast promised a “full investigation” into these accusations alongside a commitment to implement internal changes within his YouTube production company.
Despite this controversy, MrBeast continues to expand his business ventures. Recently, he announced a collaboration with Logan Paul and KSI, launching Lunchly, a competitor to Lunchables that features their respective products Feastables and Prime.
