MTG’s Duskmourn: House of Horrors expansion introduces a crucial new card for Ninja decks – Kaito, Bane of Nightmares. As a Dimir Planeswalker, Kaito possesses Ninjutsu and a variety of valuable, affordable loyalty abilities.
Kaito Shizuki is one of the courageous adventurers who are fearlessly venturing into Duskmourn’s haunted halls to find Nashi. His possession of the Planeswalker spark gives him a significant edge.
Since his debut in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, this Ninja hero has been featured in multiple sets. In Magic: The Gathering’s Omenpath era, Duskmourn showcases Kaito’s increasing significance.
It costs 2UB to cast Kaito, Bane of Nightmares. As long as this Planeswalker has at least one Loyalty counter, it also functions as a 3/4 Ninja Creature with Hexproof during your turns.
Having the ability to use Ninjutsu to cast a Planeswalker is extremely beneficial, and its additional function as an attacker that cannot be immediately removed further enhances Kaito’s versatility.
Ninjas have an incredible new MTG Commander in Kaito, Bane of Nightmares
Once Duskmourn: House of Horrors is released on September 27, Kaito’s powerful loyalty abilities will make it a crucial addition to Ninja typal decks, solidifying its role as a centerpiece in these decks.
Kaito’s initial loyalty ability is a +1, which creates an emblem that boosts the power and toughness of all Ninjas under your command by +1/+1. Emblems can be accumulated and are impervious to removal, meaning that keeping Kaito in play and utilizing this ability repeatedly will rapidly strengthen your board and make it a formidable force in just a matter of turns.
The Planeswalker’s second loyalty ability has a +0 effect and is most effective when used during your second main phase. It allows you to Surveil 2 and then draw a card for each opponent who has lost life this turn, replenishing your hand.
Ninja decks excel at utilizing unblockable Creatures, making it effortless to attack multiple opponents and maximize card draw.
Kaito’s ultimate move is a -2 ability that allows you to tap a Creature and place two stun counters on it. This effectively removes your opponent’s most powerful creature from the battle for a few turns, or allows your own creatures to get past a seemingly impenetrable blocker.
In MTG, Ninjas are known for their powerful attacks and challenging nature as Creature types. This is especially evident in Commander, where Yuriko, the Tiger’s Shadow, is a highly favored deck among players.
Despite Ninjutsu potentially causing frustration for certain players, it is refreshing to see Duskmourn providing fresh support for the Ninja archetype, ensuring its longevity.
