Kaalia of the Vast unites Angels, Dragons, and Demons in what is considered by many to be one of the most renowned and dominant Commander decks.
Prior to Wizards’ official spoiler season, leaks of Magic’s Modern Horizons 3 set have already surfaced, yet the confirmation of Kaalia’s inclusion remains unannounced. As we near the launch of the set, we will continue to provide updates on the validity of these leaks.
Kaalia is widely known as a “kill on sight”Commander, and for good reason. She was first featured in the Heavenly Inferno pre-con deck, alongside other formidable Commanders such as Edgar Markov and The Ur-Dragon, all of which were released before the format gained widespread popularity.
With the exception of Outlaws of Thunder Junction’s Quick Draw, the more recent Commander pre-cons have toned down their power. However, Kaalia still stands out from the rest of the table as soon as she is cast.
White, black, and red mana are each represented by iconic Creature types: Angels, Demons, and Dragons. As a result, there is a plethora of amazing cards that can be used to construct a Kaalia deck. Additionally, the majority of these Creatures possess the Flying ability, allowing Kaalia to swiftly summon formidable and difficult-to-defend threats onto the battlefield during the early stages of the game.
Kaalia allows you to deviate from the typical deckbuilding recommendations regarding the mana curve and instead include a diverse selection of high-cost Creatures in your deck.
Kaalia’s ability to tap and attack alongside powerful creatures such as Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Rakdos, Patron of Chaos, makes it easy for you to cheat out devastating one-turn-kill combos like Master of Cruelties, in the presence of massive Angels, Demons, and Dragons.
Although it remains uncertain if Kaalia will have a significant impact in the Modern format, her appearance in Modern Horizons 3 is sure to make a big impression on new Commander players. Although Modern Horizons 3 is primarily focused on the Modern format, Commander’s popularity in the Magic community cannot be ignored, as ongoing leaks for MH3 have revealed.
