MTG’s Duskmourn Spoilers: First Look at Highly Anticipated Set

MTG’s Duskmourn Spoilers: First Look at Highly Anticipated Set

Duskmourn: House of Horror is set to release after MTG’s Bloomburrow, however, spoilers for the highly anticipated set have already begun to surface online, offering fans an early preview of this eerie Magic collection.

The lineup of Magic: The Gathering products for 2024 is filled with successful releases, including the well-received draft format of Outlaws of Thunder Junction, the highly impactful Modern Horizons 3, and the popular Universes Beyond: Fallout Commander decks.

As Modern Horizons 3’s launch approaches, there are still many exciting MTG releases for players to look forward to, including the highly anticipated woodland warriors of Bloomburrow. As the days grow shorter and Halloween draws near, players can also anticipate the eerie and spooky atmosphere of Duskmourn.

Despite the Bloomburrow spoilers not yet beginning in earnest, players can already get an early glimpse at a few cards from Duskmourn, which is currently the last scheduled premier set for MTG in 2024. This may come as a surprise to some, as they may have expected to wait longer before receiving any information about the set.

The source of this early look at Duskmourn comes from MTG Japan’s official website, providing players with the opportunity to finally experience the set that has been capturing their imagination for a considerable amount of time.

MTG Duskmourn Card Reveals

The Ruler of the Hauntwoods

MTG Overlord of the Hauntwoods
WotC

The Hauntwoods’ Overlord is a 6/5 Avatar Horror Enchantment Creature with a casting cost of 3GG. This card is part of a confirmed cycle and serves as the green mana option, meaning that Magic: The Gathering players can expect to see other Overlord cards as more Duskmourn spoilers are revealed.

Although this Creature possesses the Impending 4 ability, MTG players will have to exercise patience in order to uncover the meaning of Impending and determine if it justifies the 5-mana cost of Overlord of the Hauntwoods.

One aspect of Overlord of the Hauntwoods that is especially fascinating, besides its connection to Impending, is the unexpected assistance it offers to one of the most unusual Commanders in Modern Horizons 3.

Although MTG players were anticipating the unveiling of entirely new mechanics in this world-first Duskmourn reveal, this card instead continues the theme of ‘everything’ introduced in the Tricky Terrain Commander pre-con from Modern Horizons 3.

Omo, Queen of Vesuva, the Commander of Tricky Terrain, bestows counters on Creatures or Lands upon entering the battlefield or attacking. These counters grant the Creature every Creature type in MTG, enabling the use of typal strategies.

Placing all counters on a Land transforms it into every land type. Tricky Terrain is a unique deck that utilizes card knowledge and surprising combinations, and Duskmourn is upholding its legacy with the versatile everywhere land.

The operations of Overlord of the Hauntwoods are strikingly similar to those of Omo. Whenever it enters the battlefield or attacks, you have the option to generate a tapped colorless land token named everywhere. Although everywhere has fewer options than Omo’s everything counters, it still represents all basic land types. The repeated creation of new Land tokens makes Overlord of the Hauntwood an excellent choice for ramping up your resources and can also serve as a valuable component in combos.

As a green being, Omo, Queen of Vesuva’s color identity is perfectly suited for the role of Overlord in the Hauntwoods, providing Simic players in Modern Horizons 3 with exciting new support to anticipate upon the release of Duskmourn.

Enduring Tenacity

MTG Enduring Tenacity
WotC

This Snake Enchantment Creature can be summoned for 2BB and is classified as a Glimmer Creature, a newly introduced type. The reveal of Enduring Tenacity is highly anticipated and is expected to be a valuable addition to many lifegain decks, offering a potent burn damage win condition.

Sanguine Bond has been a fundamental card in lifegain decks that utilize black mana, but Enduring Tenacity has now surpassed it in power. Although this Creature is more vulnerable to general removal, it has a lower casting cost than Sanguine Bond. Additionally, if it is destroyed as a Creature, it will immediately return to the battlefield as an Enchantment, providing it with strong resilience.

Additionally, in addition to the Overlord of the Hauntwood and Enduring Tenacity, four other Duskmourn cards were unveiled on MTG Japan’s website, featuring Japanese-inspired artwork and names.

We will continue to provide you with updates as more information becomes available. These cards are also compatible with the Overlord and Enduring cycles and can be found below:
