MTG’s First Ever Arena to Paper Card Combines Entire Power Nine

MTG’s First Ever Arena to Paper Card Combines Entire Power Nine

One of the most unpredictable cards in Magic: The Gathering Arena will make its physical MTG debut in Mystery Booster 2, granting players the ability to access all of the Power Nine cards.

Despite being released as part of the very first printing of Magic: The Gathering, the Power Nine remains an infamous group of cards in the game. Despite the introduction of new cards and significant power creep over the past 30 years, the Power Nine still stand out as some of the most powerful cards in Magic.

The cost of being part of this group, especially Black Lotus, is significantly exaggerated, as the Lotus is consistently sold for tens of thousands of dollars at auctions.

The Oracle of the Alpha is a physical version of a card from the Alchemy format on MTG Arena. Previously only available digitally, it is now making its debut in paper Magic. Along with its Flying and Scry abilities, the card’s main function is to Conjure the entire Power Nine into your deck.

At first glance, it may seem like a wild addition to paper Magic. However, the Oracle of the Alpha has an Acorn symbol at the bottom of the card, indicating that it is not permissible for use in tournament play.

The mechanic ‘Conjure’ is designed for Arena and generates duplicates of certain cards to be included in your deck. It will be intriguing to observe its implementation in traditional Magic. As mentioned by a user on Reddit: “Finally, an opportunity to utilize those 30th anniversary cards!”

Despite the fact that Magic’s 30th Anniversary release was heavily criticized for its high pricing, the comment is still playfully sarcastic. Nevertheless, there is some truth to it as the card is only meant for casual play and it’s highly probable that players will resort to using Power Nine proxies to take advantage of Oracle of the Alpha’s impressive Conjure ability.

Due to the fact that individual card cost is not a concern in digital Magic as it is in paper, MTG Arena enables the Power Nine to maintain an influential presence in the game.

Alchemy: Outlaws of Thunder Junction also features the Collector cycle, a group of Creatures that interact with this legendary group. These Creatures have the ability to summon a specific Mox card from the Power Nine to the field.

Mystery Booster 2 is expected to be a playful set, featuring numerous absurd and enjoyable designs. It is anticipated that Mystery Booster 2 will also include more cards tailored for Arena play, as players share their discoveries from the set.
