MTG’s Infamous Blood Moon Turns Blue in Modern Horizons 3 Leaks

When Modern Horizons 3 is released, non-blue decks should beware of Harbinger of the Seas, as it has the potential to bring disaster.

Blood Moon is a highly disliked card in Magic: The Gathering, often ranking at the top of lists for least-favored cards in the game. However, it seems that Wizards is now expanding its impact to other colors as a leaked potential card for Modern Horizons 3 shows a blue-mana version of Blood Moon.

The unconfirmed leak of Modern Horizons 3 features a potential new Creature, Harbinger of the Seas. We will continue to provide updates on the legitimacy of this leak, but if the card proves to be genuine, it is sure to make a splash in the game.

The casting cost for Harbinger of the Seas is 1UU (one generic mana and two blue), and it carries the ability of turning all Nonbasic Lands into Islands. This immediately draws comparisons to Blood Moon, which transforms Nonbasic Lands into Mountains, leading fans to affectionately dub it as ‘Blue Moon’, ‘Flood Moon’, and other similar monikers.

Although Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth and other mana-fixing cards assist in casting multi-colored spells by granting the additional land type of Forest, cards like Blood Moon and Harbinger of the Seas do not include this additional text.

By converting each land into a singular color, such as a Mountain or Island, these cards can effectively prevent other players from using the mana colors necessary for their spells, effectively locking them out of their decks.

Despite its mercy towards Basic Lands, Harbinger of the Seas can cause significant trouble for decks that utilize three to five colors. The more diverse a deck’s mana usage is, the more it relies on Nonbasic lands. With the ability to lock all players into blue mana, Harbinger of the Seas is sure to be both highly desired and despised when it is released on June 14 in Modern Horizons 3.
